Day trip to Lake Balaton

5/5
“We had a fabulous time with George, we spent 12 hours with him. I felt rather guilty tying him up all day, but I think he really enjoyed himself as well. He was very knowledgeable about Budapest and the Lake Balaton area. He knew the history and the best places to go. It was a wonderful day and I would recommend George and Best Budapest Tour Guides to everyone who is visiting the area.” Names in the photo from left to right: Ken S., Craig P., Robin P., and Gary S.

Day trip from Budapest to lake Balaton

We take the highway from Budapest, and reach Veszprem in an hour: it was town of the Hungarian Queens, with a peculiar manufacture set up by the first queen of Hungary. Short walk in the old town, a 1000 years old cathedral and a view.

Drive to the largest Porcelain Manufactory of Europe founded in 1826, in the small town of Herend. Herend Porcelain visitor center introduces the fascinating manufacturing technology. Coffée and shopping possibilities.

We reach lake Balaton and start with a breathtaking view of the the light-green lake from the Tihany hill. Church full of colorful wood carving, and a 1000 year-old crypt.

Old fishermen houses are open with Hungarian handicraft and pottery. Recommended lunch in a good, local restaurant.

Driving onto the lakeshore, if you wish and weather permits, you may even swim in the lake! We walk along the lakeshore, and can taste the healthy source water that made Balatonfüred famous.
We leave late afternoon to get back to Budapest
