Hungarian Horse Show

5/5
" Ildiko and our driver Andrew were wonderful and provided us with a full day tour of the Hungarian countryside. We had so much fun seeing the ranch and the horses! Great lunch, too. I would love to have had the time to spend a whole day exploring Budapest with her" (Laurie Venable, Canada)

For those who like horses and the countryside!

40 minute ride from Budapest to a ranch and Equestrian Park of the Lázár brothers, winners of many carriage driving championships.

On arrival at the park guests are welcomed with cheese-scones and fruit brandy. We take a horse-pulled coach ride through the peaceful forest, fields and hills. The carriage drops us off at the World Champion’s Hall, where a short film introduces the carriage driving competition, and you can admire the Lazar family’s golden medals and winning carriages. Visit the farmyard and the stables: 70 horses, many of them won competitions, and traditional Hungarian breed animals – the long-wooled Hungarian sheep, the mangalica pig, the huge gray cattle, poultry, and the Hungarian sheepdog, the puli.

Sitting down on benches in the shade, the Horse Show begins. The stars are the Hungarian horsemen, who will demonstrate the 1000 year old Hungarian horse breeding and riding traditions. You will see archery on horseback, the traditional fighting method of the old Hungarian tribes. The main attraction is the Puszta-five: a horseman riding 5 horses at the same time!

A typical Hungarian lunch called the Shepherd’s menu is offered: a cauldron of Hungarian goulash soup, custard pie with apricot jam, a glass of white or red wine, mineral water, and strong espresso coffee.

As always in a country restaurant in Hungary, gypsy music is played during lunch. The 5-member gypsy ensemble play the violin, the viola, the double-bass, the clarinet, and a very unusual instrument, the hammer dulcimer.
