Although Budapest had a very strong Jewish presence before the Holocaust, the most prevalently Jewish area (which the Germans turned into the first ever Ghetto of the city) lies aroung the Grand (Dohány) Synagogue. Within walking distance from each other three Synagogues (Orthodox, Neologue, Status Quo) will be visited in a walking tour of the Jewish quarter.We’ll see the Jewish Museum, the Memorial Garden, the Holocaust Memorial as well as the Jewish Community Center, the Carl Lutz Memorial, the only remaining piece of the Ghetto wall, the first mall of Central Europe, and a new attraction of the area: a ”Ruin Pub”.
