Adventures in the Castle District - off the beaten track
See your guide: Edith S.The route will start from the North of the Castle district.
You will get on the city wall and on the top of the old, fortified City Gate. Look in the city and see how well protected it was. Look down on the other side and put yourself in the shoes of a besieger. Riding canons is a must!
Next, walking through historic streets you will learn the mysterious stories behind the most special buildings.
Arriving to the main square we will climb up to the Bell Tower of Matthias Church. Seven bells weigh altogether 12 tons above our heads. 197 steps and a narrow stone staircase takes you up to the recently renovated panoramic balcony. Definitely worth the effort, if you'd like to be on top of the world!
Leaving the main square you will come across a statue that can bring you a great deal of good luck, just watch for the shinny (and delicate) body parts!
Next adventure awaits under the ground. Entering the historic Buda Cave system is like a walk through an enormous underground Emmental cheese. Find your way, get through the Labyrinth, meet the life-size wax puppets and travel back in time. Shiver and solve riddles for yourself! This special half-an-hour underground tour is an absolute must when visiting the Castle.
Next, we go to a Former-formal Royal Palace and descend the hill on the South, enjoy magnificent view and pass through the Royal Gardens.
We finish the tour just a few steps away where the heart of Hungary awaits. A compass shows you distances of various towns and also the rough size of Hungary.
